Hi, I’m Hendrik!

My love for bread began in childhood, watching my mom bake fresh loaves for our family. Those Saturday moments spent eating fresh bread straight from the oven became a cornerstone of my life. As I grew older, I started experimenting with bread myself, inspired by the incredible flavors I experienced during family trips to northern Italy. But when I discovered how many unnecessary ingredients were hidden in store-bought bread, I realized the importance of making bread the right way at home.

As a software engineer, I’ve always approached problems with curiosity and a desire to understand the "why" behind every step. Bread-making was no different. I wanted to know the science of fermentation, flour types, and sourdough, so I could create the best bread possible. My journey led me to share my discoveries, much like open-source projects where everyone can benefit from shared knowledge.

Over time, this passion grew into something bigger—a mission to empower others. That’s why I started theBread.code();, a YouTube channel dedicated to helping people around the world learn the art and science of bread-making. What started as a personal journey has grown into a community of like-minded bakers who share tips, experiments, and the joy of creating something with their hands.

For the past three years, I’ve worked on writing The Sourdough Framework, a book designed to serve as a foundation for bakers to better understand the mechanics of bread-making. My goal was to create a resource that isn’t just a collection of recipes but a framework that empowers bakers to adapt, experiment, and grow their skills with confidence.

My goal is to enable as many people as possible to make great bread at home. Bread is more than just food—it’s a way to connect, to create, and to nourish both body and soul. Together, we’re not only improving the reputation of bread but also bringing people closer to the simple, rewarding process of making it from scratch.

Thank you for being part of this growing community. Together, we’re proving that anyone can bake amazing bread with a little guidance and the right mindset. Let’s keep learning, experimenting, and sharing our love for bread-making!
